Never Miss Two Days in a Row

Skipping a day doesn’t break you.But skipping two starts a pattern.

That’s the simple rule that’s helped me stay consistent in my habits — without guilt, without perfectionism.

Why It Works

Most habit advice focuses on never missing a day. Sounds good in theory, but in real life, things happen:

  • You get sick.

  • Your kids wake you up three times in the night.

  • Work explodes and eats your morning routine.

Missing a day isn’t failure. It’s life.

But if you miss two in a row, it becomes easier to miss three… and then you’re not “taking a break” anymore, you’re quitting.

The Reset Rule

I treat this rule like a reset button:

  • Miss one day? No problem — get back at it tomorrow.

  • Miss two? That’s the signal I’m sliding. Time to show up, even if I do the bare minimum.

This takes the pressure off being perfect, while still protecting my momentum.

How to Use It

  1. Pick your habit. It could be working out, journaling, walking, meditating — whatever matters to you.

  2. Track it simply. I use a calendar or a note in my phone.

  3. Forgive the first miss. It’s part of the process.

  4. Never allow the second. That’s where discipline kicks in.

Consistency isn’t about doing it every day. It’s about doing it often enough that you don’t have to start over.

What’s one habit you could apply this “never miss two” rule to starting today?
